Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a relaxation technique, which helps to eliminate the negative effects of stress and control anxiety, physical and mental tension. PMR consists of a series of exercises to tighten and relax different muscle groups throughout the body, which in turn leads to relaxation of the body and mind. The effects of relaxation are manifested in the regulation of heart rhythm, slowing down the breathing rhythm, lowering blood pressure, reducing muscle tension and the psychological experience of body relaxation.
Once you have mastered and learned the exercises, in addition to relieving stress and relaxation during the day, in a variety of circumstances, you can use them to improve sleep quality by performing them before bed in a supine position.
